Honors and Activities: 1996: Alternate to Internation Science Fair Was awarded an alternate bid to the international science fair in Tuscon Arizona, May of 96. Naval Science Award At the regional level, was awarded the Naval science award and a programable graphing calculator. Mississippi School for Math and Science Accepted into the residential public High School based on the MUW campus. Entry standards are high and students are drawn from across the state. General Science Fair Was awarded 1st at local and regional fairs. Was awarded 2nd at the state fair. General Academic Awards Award for Excellence in: Gifted Biology II, English II, MS State Government. 1997: Chris Read Award for Fiction An award presented to one student from the MSMS student body anually for the first place piece of short fiction, published in Southern Voices Literary Magazine. Biology Olympiad Recieved one of the top ten scores in the MSMS student body. Staff on Southern Voices Literary Magazine Served as staff on the student compiled and published magazine. 1998: National Merit Finalist A nationwide schloraship program sponsored by the National Merit Corporation, Universities, and other Corporate sponsors. PSAT, SAT, GPA, and activities are considered. Mississippi Scholastic Press Awards: Personally recieved 1st place in short fiction. Southern Voices recieved 1st place overall. Science Award Recognizes four MSMS seniors for excellence in the disciplins of Chemistry, Physics, and Biology. Early Entry Vet Program This program guarantees deserving seniors a place in the Mississippi State College of Veterinary Medicine. Our American Heritage History Competition Recieved second place individually. MSMS's team won first place overall. Mu Alpha Theta State Convention Recieved 2nd place in the statistics examination. The MSMS team won first place overall. American Studies Award Award given to one deserving MSMS senior for excellence in the AP History Classes. Sharp Academic Scholarship Award given to deserving students majoring in disciplins under the College of Forest Resources. Southern Voices Was published and recieved honorable mention in the essay competition. Accepted into University Honors College Organization of MSU students dedicated to academic excellence. CIA Member of Coalition of Independent Activists, a non-partisan political group, which analyzes issues from all angles. Mu Alpha Theta This organization met weekly to advance our knowledge and enjoyment of mathmatics. 1999: Honors College Recognition Was honored at the Honors College Award ceremony for a 4.0 GPA. CFR Award Banquet Recognized for continuing academic success.
Work Experience: 1999: Veterinary Assistant Worked for a Veterinarian during the summer. Responsibilities included: greeting clients, grooming dogs, miscelaneous simple tests and tasks. 1990-99:Seine Crew Hand: Responsibilities included biweekly fish feeding and occasional seinings followed by dressing and cleaning. 1995-99:Field Hand: Worked harvesting vegetables, planting, hoeing fields, and maintaining the irrigation. 1993-99:Store Clerk: Responsibilities included: register, pumping gas, and stocking shelves. 1996-98:MSMS Work Service Performed custodial duties in the academic hall and dormatory.
